Should You Put Prices on Your Website?

Updated: May 23

I have a secret to share with you. I've added and removed and then re-added my pricing on my website countless times. It's a little ridiculous how much time I've spent weighing the pros and cons of listing my prices then editing my website over and over.

I'm sharing this inner struggle with you because I don't want you to make the same mistake and waste precious time and mental energy on how you display your pricing. The short answer is, yes, you should list your prices on your website. But here's why.

Why You Don't Like Listing Your Prices

You Don't Want to Leave Anyone Out

Some businesses don't list their prices because they like to customize their offers to the individual needs of their customers. I am 100% guilty of this. I wanted to be accessible to everyone and work with low-budget companies and big brands all at once.

What's the problem with that? I ended up selling, selling, selling to someone that, when it came down the dollars and cents, still couldn't afford to work with me no matter how much I whittled down the proposal.

That was valuable time wasted for BOTH of us. They could have found someone that fits better with their budget, and I could have focused my efforts on landing clients that saw my value and could afford what I offered.

You Hope Creating a Connection Before Talking About Pricing Will Improve Your Chances

Some people choose not to list their prices because they think it will get them more inquiries and a better chance at selling the interested party on their service.

Again, this can be a waste of time sending emails back and forth without either of you getting what you want in the end.

It's like if you've ever shopped for a new car at a dealership. They want you to take it for a drive, feel the leather interior, open the sunroof, etc., before talking numbers.

Next thing you know, you're filling out paperwork, and they drop the price tag on you. You can't afford this car, and you can't get that time back. In the end, you and the car salesman are both a little annoyed at each other for wasting the other's time.

You Don't Want to be Undercut by Other Brands

Be honest. When you first came up with your pricing, did you compare it to other people with the same level of training and expertise as you? There's no reason to be ashamed. We've all done it.

So it's understandable that you're nervous that another wellness coach or health expert might undercut your price to get clients that don't have the budget to work with you.

But you know something? That's ok. Because even though I can get a jacket at H&M for a quarter of the price of one at Nordstrom doesn't mean I'll always go with the cheaper option.

And guess what else? Nordstrom isn't going to go out of business if I go with the budget brand because someone else will always be there, ready to pay the higher price.

You're Worried About What Everyone Thinks

Again, I'm completely guilty of this. Not so much about potential clients, but more so about friends and family seeing my pricing. What if they think I'm charging too much? What if they don't understand how I'm staying in business with these high prices? What if I come across as greedy? All thoughts have run through my head.

Just remember that your income is your business. You know how much your time, energy, and knowledge are worth, and you need to charge whatever reflects that. No one else needs to understand that. So before letting those thoughts run through your head, run the numbers, and you'll be more confident in displaying those prices.
